Nice gift. And did you get anything from the Chief of Staff?” Somehow, Remy managed to infuse the title with innuendo.
Remy stood straight, making the most of his medium height. He dressed sharply, like a modern Italian dandy, and his sexual orientation was indeterminate, or perhaps indiscriminate. Madeleine hoped he would thrive.
“I haven’t spoken two sentences with Dr. Reilly since I arrived in Louisville.”
“Really? Zach…” He corrected himself, “Reilly said he liked you for the position.” Again, Remy’s statement came with a sexual undertone, or maybe that was just Madeleine’s unmanageable thoughts.
Blushing, she said, “Zach Reilly’s opinions are of little concern to me.”
“Oh c’mon, Mad. You and Reilly, medical school affair, passionate, ended badly. Isn’t that what one of your bourbon-fueled confessions covered?”
